When my daughter was younger, we used to spend a lot of time having dance parties while listening to children's music on Pandora. One of the songs that she fell in love with came from Kira Willey's album Dance for the Sun: Yoga Songs for Kids (affiliate link), and unlike a lot of children's music, I actually enjoyed listening to her songs as well. In fact, the Dance for the Sun album remains one of my daughter's most played albums. Kira Willey continued to make music, and we have enjoyed all of the ones we have experienced. So, needless to say, I was thrilled when I found out that she was writing a children's book about kid-friendly mindfulness practices. I actually ordered Breathe Like a Bear the day it came out, and we have loved it ever since. I'm excited to introduce this book to you today. The book includes the following categories of mindfulness practices with specific activities in each one:
I will introduce one of my daughter's favorite practices this Thursday and a second one next week. I highly recommend grabbing this book from the bookstore or library. I'm pretty sure that we could all use some more mindfulness in our lives, especially if it's accompanied by hot chocolate and adorable animals. Where is Your Breath? One of the most essential concepts for mindfulness is being able to find your breath and focus on it. I've included a summarized version of the practice called "Where is your breath?" from the book. I hope you enjoy it.
I hope that you have enjoyed this simple meditation for kids. Please feel free to ask questions or comment below.
